Preston West has undertaken a number of water and energy efficiency measures.

Water tanks have been installed to flush all toilets in the school and water our kitchen garden.

Old fluroscent lights that ran at 36 watts per light per hour, have been replaced with more efficient lights that run at 8 watts per light per hour.Over 80 lights have been replaced for significant power savings.

The school now has a 6.11 kw solar system installed. We produce an average of 22 kw a day which amounts to 8030 kw per year. This electricity is used to run our lights, computers and other school appliances. On sunny days, if our school generates more than it uses that extra electricity is exported to the main power grid. On overcast days and at night, if the school needs more power it is importerd automatically from the main powerlines.
